Ad copy character counter.
Check headlines, descriptions and captions against Meta, Google and Instagram length limits as you type.
Ad copy character counter
This tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
How it works.
Type or paste your copy. The counter shows characters used and turns amber when you pass the limit.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram ads): the numbers shown are commonly recommended lengths so text is not cut off on many placements. Longer text is allowed, but people may need to tap "more". Check the Meta Ads Guide for your placement.
- Google responsive search ads: headlines are limited to 30 characters and descriptions to 90. Some characters, such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters, count as two. See Google Ads Help.
- Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, but only the first line or two shows before "more". See the Instagram Help Centre.
Emoji are counted as one character each here. Platforms change their limits, so check the official pages before you launch.
Questions.
Why does my Meta text look cut off?
Meta shows a limited amount of text before a "more" link, and the amount varies by placement and device. Put the key message in the first line.
Are the Meta numbers hard limits?
No. They are commonly recommended lengths. Meta allows longer text in most fields, but it may be truncated.
Are the Google numbers hard limits?
Yes. Google responsive search ads will not accept headlines over 30 characters or descriptions over 90.
Is my text saved?
No. The counter runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored.
